Software, hardware and other things I use day to day.

Inspired by James Brooks, Freek Van der Herten and many other developers, I've put together this list of the hardware, software and services I use. I'll keep it up to date as things change.

Development

  • Claude Code (opens in a new tab)

    One of the two AI tools I'm currently using to help scaffold things.

  • Docker (opens in a new tab)

    One of our most used day to day pieces of software. I'd say 90% of our projects are currently built and run on Docker containers.

  • Herd (opens in a new tab)

    A core part of my development flow. It makes setting up new sites a breeze, it gets regular updates, and having multiple PHP versions out of the box is superb.

  • iTerm2 (opens in a new tab)

    A true upgrade from Terminal. iTerm2 has some great features and plenty of add-ons that let you customise it to your needs.

  • Laravel Idea (opens in a new tab)

    One of the best plugins if you're a Laravel developer. It lets you generate tonnes of Laravel code quickly.

  • PhpStorm (opens in a new tab)

    The go-to IDE for PHP developers. I've tried a number of different IDEs over the years, but this one has been the best.

  • Sequel Ace (opens in a new tab)

    I was a big fan of Sequel Pro before they stopped updating it. Sequel Ace is a fork that's actively maintained.

  • TablePlus (opens in a new tab)

    Another database GUI I use when I need to set up connections to Redis, Postgres or other databases that Sequel Ace doesn't support.
